LITELOK X3 Moto Review: Is This the End of the Angle Grinder Threat?

LiteLok Close Up

The Quick Verdict

The LITELOK X3 Moto isn’t just another D-lock; it is a specialised piece of defensive engineering. While most D-locks succumb to a battery-powered angle grinder in under 30 seconds, the X3 is designed to destroy the grinder’s discs instead.

  • Best For: High-risk urban parking, overnight security, and riders who want the highest portable protection possible.
  • Safety Rating: Sold Secure Motorcycle Diamond (The highest UK rating).
  • The Big Win: Barronium® technology. This ceramic composite layer wears down multiple angle grinder discs, turning a quick “theft” into a long, noisy ordeal.

First Impressions & Style

LITELOK X3 MOTO

The X3 Moto looks “industrial-chic.” It’s finished in an Onyx Black retro-reflective vinyl, which looks great on a modern naked bike or a custom build.

  • The Vibe: It feels substantial. When you hold it, the 2.1kg weight tells you this isn’t a toy. It fits perfectly through most motorcycle wheels and around fork legs.
  • Fit & Feel: The “plant-based eco-rubber” outer coating is a genius touch. It feels soft to the touch, meaning you won’t scratch the powder coating on your expensive rims when threading it through in the dark.
  • Biker Base Tip: We took this to a the BIkeshed Moto Show in London. Unlike a massive 19mm chain, the X3 fits easily into a standard backpack or a tail bag, making it the perfect “City Meet” security tool.

Technical Deep Dive

LITELOK X3 MOTO IN USE

LITELOK didn’t just make the steel thicker; they changed the material science entirely.

FeatureDetails
MaterialHardened high-tensile steel core fused with Barronium® armour
Lock CylinderABLOY® SENTRY (The most pick-proof cylinder on the market)
Weight2.1kg (Surprisingly light for its strength)
Internal Dimensions99mm x 195mm (Large enough for most wheel/fork combos)
ManufacturingMade in Britain (Solar-powered factory in South Wales)

Real-World Performance

The standout feature is the ABLOY Sentry lock. Most motorcycle locks use standard discs that can be “picked” by experts, but the Abloy is virtually untouchable. The action is smooth and doesn’t “grit up” after a week of British rain.

  • In the Saddle: Carrying a 15kg chain is a chore. Carrying the 2.1kg X3 is effortless.
  • Weather Testing: It features a self-sealing silicone keyhole cover. No more fumbling with a plastic flap that snaps off in the winter—it just seals itself to keep out the road salt and grime.
  • Security Confidence: Knowing that a thief would need 4-5 discs and multiple battery swaps to get through this lock usually means they’ll move on to the bike parked next to yours.

Pros & Cons

✅ What we Love:

  • Grinder Resistance: At least 20x more resistant than standard D-locks.
  • Pick-Proof: The Abloy cylinder is the gold standard of lock security.
  • UK Made: Great to support a British brand innovating in South Wales.
  • Reflective: The “X” markings flash in headlights, adding a tiny bit of extra safety when it’s strapped to your bike at night.

❌ What Could be Better:

  • The Price: At nearly £280, it’s a “big hit” to the wallet—though cheaper than an insurance excess!
  • Size: It’s a full-size D-lock, so it won’t fit under the seat of every sportbike (check your dimensions!).

The Competition

  • The “Lighter” Alternative: The LITELOK X1. A bit thinner and cheaper, but still angle-grinder resistant. Great for smaller scooters or less risky areas.
  • The Heavyweight Alternative: The Hiplok DX1000. A wider D-lock that fits larger tires, though slightly more expensive.

Final Verdict: Should You Buy It?

If you park your bike in a UK city—especially London, Bristol, or Manchester—the LITELOK X3 Moto is currently the best portable security you can buy. It is the first time the “good guys” have pulled ahead of the thieves using portable power tools.

Final Thought: “If you can afford the bike, you can afford the lock that keeps it. The X3 Moto is a one-time purchase that could save you thousands.”

Headed over to Roam this morning to grab a coffee on the way to London. Lovely, large cafe with lots of seating and outside space. No parking directly outside, although the car park opposite does have dedicated motorcycle parking.

Great biker spot with a really friendly bike night. Always feel welcome when I head to this one. As a single female, it can be quiet daunting heading to a bike night alone, but at The Crown Inn, I have never felt worried.
